What To Say Next by Julie Buxbaum

Clues to describe this book: Grief, Autism, Friendship, Truth

Review: What To Say Next is about David, a quiet and lonesome teenager born with autism, falls in love with Kit, a popular teenager who is grieving over the loss of her father who had just been killed in a car accident. This novel was unexpectedly darker than I anticipated it to be. The alternating narratives between David and Kit in each chapter gives you a more well-rounded perspective of each main character. Julie’s writing style is refreshing and keeps you fully immersed throughout the story. Julie does a remarkable job capturing sensitive themes (i.e. bullying and death) through the voices of her diverse set of characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fast and satisfying read.
