Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
Clues to describe this book: Social Class, Family, Entitlement, and Drama
Review: Crazy Rich Asians is Kevin Kwan’s debut novel and is the first of the trilogy. This refreshing chic lit is about three super wealthy families in Singapore and the drama involved when Nick Young, one of the heirs to the most massive wealth in Asia, brings his ABC (American Born Chinese) girlfriend, Rachel Chu, as his plus one to his best friend’s wedding. I decided to listen to the audiobook and I am so glad that I did. Lynn Chen was an awesome narrator and I loved the accents she used for each character. Kevin Kwan’s writing style is intriguing and kind of feels like you’re watching a soap opera of some sort. It felt like a guilty read that was pretty satisfying. However, it felt like there were too many characters to keep up with. I wasn’t a big fan of Nick and Rachel’s storyline, but I really liked Astrid’s storyline. If you’re looking for a lighthearted dramatic gossipy novel, definitely pick this this. I would highly recommend listening to the audiobook.
