Match Made in Manhattan by Amanda Stauffer
Clues to describe this book: Stress of online dating, Awkward first dates, Friendship, New York
Review: Match Made in Manhattan is Amanda Stauffer’s debut novel. This chick lit novel follows Alison who just broke up with her boyfriend of 3+ years and decides to give Match.com a whirl in New York. The novel is filled a bunch of first time dates and short term relationships who Alison encounters on Match.com. Given that the premise of this novel was super intriguing, I thought this would be a great contemporary novel, but it was one of the worst books I’ve read. The author’s writing style is choppy and filled with mundane dialogue. More than half way through the book, I started to lose interest as there were way too many characters to follow along with. I feel like the author doesn’t quite have her writing stride and she could have condensed this quite a lot or make it into a short story instead. Overall, I don’t think I’ll read any other books from this author and I wouldn’t recommend this novel. There are so many other great contemporary novels out there so don’t waste your time on this one.
